Jacksonville, FL April 28, 2004 -- Now, Jacksonville home-based entrepreneurs have twice as much to be proud of. For the second year in a row, the Small Business Administration’s Home-Based Business Advocate of the Year from the North Florida District is from Jacksonville.
“Many businesses that start out at the kitchen table become the thriving employers of tomorrow,” said Derrick who advocates for home-based firms as a volunteer also considers advocacy a central focus of his career as a business coach. “My goal is to affect 10 clients a year to the extent that they can each hire three additional people. In other words, I want to help create 30 jobs this year.”
Charlie Derrick is the second winner of the Small Business Administration’s North Florida District Home-Based Business Advocate of the Year. Individuals who have experienced the rewards and difficulties of home-based businesses and have volunteered to improve the climate for these businesses were eligible for nomination.
Derrick has been in the SOHO Professionals (Small Office-Home Office) Business Resource Group of the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce since 2002, and has been a guest speaker. In the fall of 2003, he became chairperson of the group.
“I am all about helping business owners become successful, and I saw SOHO as a natural extension of that,” said Derrick. “Much of what I help my clients deal with is fear. Fear that may be holding their businesses back. There’s the fear of introducing new people in to the business, fear of investing in things that will grow the business like marketing and advertising.”
Charlie Derrick is the President and Founder of Action International First Coast. He is a business owner and has 25 years of business experience with a major air-express transportation firm, a top-tier credit card bank and a multi-branded national retailer.
Before he became a business coach, Derrick gained a wealth of experience in business areas such as operations, marketing, process re-engineering, project management and IT. His MBA and MS degrees are in telecommunications and information systems management.
Since 2001, he has been sharing his extensive skills and experience helping entrepreneurs in the First Coast succeed. “Coaching other business owners has become my passion. There is simply nothing more satisfying to me than helping very talented entrepreneurs achieve their dreams a more fulfilling and abundant life.”
